Physiatry is a medical specialty focused on prevention, diagnosis and nonsurgical treatment of disorders associated with disability. It is also a team oriented specialty with the goal of promoting quality of life and functional outcomes.

Dr. Sanjay R. Patel received his M.D. from Michigan State University in 1993. Subsequently Dr. Patel went to University of California, Irvine to complete his residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Dr. Patel is a Board Certified Member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. He also holds additional Board Certifications in Pain Medicine, Spinal Cord Injury Medicine and is also a certified Medical Acupuncturist.

Dr. Patel's philosophy is based on improvement in quality of life through improvement in function. His goal as a physician is to partner with and educate patients to achieve the best possible outcome. Pain Medicine is especially challenging due to its complex nature and both its physical and emotional strain on patients and their families.

Dr. Patel understands the value of time spent with patients, listening to their concerns, and educating them so they may participate in their care. With his diverse background and training, he is able to devise a specific treatment plan for each individual. This results in decreased pain and improved function for the patient, thereby improving the patient's quality of life.
